New Delhi: Nehru Place, a commercial hub and computer hardware market here, will get its second Metro station in 2016 as part of Delhi Metro's phase-III, an official said Sunday.
"The new station, an underground one, will be constructed on the Outer Ring Road, just opposite Paras Cinema," the official added.
The new Metro station will be on the Janakpuri West-Botanical Garden corridor, which will directly connect west Delhi areas with the satellite town of Noida in Uttar Pradesh.
At the Nehru Place station, five entry and exit points will be constructed along with a subway across the busy Outer Ring Road, the official added.
One entry point will be near Paras Cinema while another will be on the Lala Lajpat Rai Road leading to Lady Shri Ram College.
Three other entry points will be built near Nehru Enclave and Veer Savarkar School near Nehru Place.
However, there will be no direct connectivity between the new station and the existing Nehru Place Metro station on the Central Secretariat-Badarpur corridor, the official added.
According to the detailed project report, 19,546 people are expected to use the proposed station daily in 2016. By the year 2031, more than 30,000 commuters will be benefited.
The tender for the civil construction of the new station had already been floated and the contract would be awarded by the next month. The construction may begin by the end of this year, the official said.
About 40 percent of Metro phase-III will be underground. It would link Mukundpur to Yamuna Vihar, Janakpuri West to Botanical Garden, Central Secretariat to Kashmere Gate and Jahangirpuri to Badli.
The Mukundpur-Yamuna Vihar stretch would be the longest (56 km) with 35 stations. The Janakpuri West-Botanical Garden corridor will be 34 km long with 22 stations.
The Metro makes over 2,400 trips a day, covering about 70,000 km and carrying around 1.8 million passengers on working days.
