Lack of patient care services and non-availability of medical equipment at north east Delhi civic body run hospital, Swami Dayanand Hospital, continue to be a concern. The only civic hospital in the area, followed by the children’s outpatient ward of Swami Dayanand Hospital has not been functioning for past five years.
The new pediatric ward of Swami Dayanand Hospital had come up in 2007 by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to diagnose the disorder in the children due to acute shortage of space in the hospital. But the children’s ward structure constructed in 2007 remains unused ever since.
Notably, the pediatric OPD is being run by hospital administration just adjacent to the hospital premises in three small rooms. The OPD has eight pediatrician doctors who prescribe treatment to hundreds of children every day.
On contacting, EDMC mayor Annapurna Mishra said action will be taken on wastage of public money. She said officials responsible for the delay will be punished.
The pediatric ward is located on the third floor. An elevator was also installed in the same year but that also remains non-operational so far.
On questioning an official, on request of not revealing identity, he said the ward has not been handed over to hospital administration by MCD despite several communication with the appellate authorities. He claims civic authorities did not clarify about the hitch in this transfer.
Dr R N Bansal, medical superintendent of the hospital, said he is already in negotiation with the officials of municipal corporation and a way out will be found to take possession of the ward. He said the ward will soon be functional.
