NY: A Florida man who authorities say fatally shot his wife - and apparently then posted a photo of her body on Facebook has been charged with first-degree murder.
Police said in an arrest affidavit Thursday (Friday, NZ time) that 31-year-old Derek Medina says he shot 26-year-old Jennifer Alfonso several times at their South Miami home after she punched him repeatedly and wielded a knife.
A picture that appears to show a dead woman has been uploaded to Facebook by the woman's husband, also alleged to have been the killer, CBS Miami reports.
The local CBS News affiliate reports that 31-year-old South Miami resident Derek Medina went to police on Thursday to tell them he had a domestic dispute with his wife and then shot her.
He tells police that he had armed himself with a gun during a verbal dispute when she said she was ‘‘leaving him’’.
When officers responded to the home, they found Alfonso’s body, as well as her 10-year-old daughter, who was unharmed.
A post on a Facebook page identified as Medina’s says, ‘‘I’m going to prison or death sentence for killing my wife.’’
The photo, showing a woman slumped on the floor with blood on her left arm and left cheek, was up for more than five hours before it was removed by Facebook.
Medina appears to have uploaded a photograph of his dead wife to his Facebook account. At the time of writing it has been shared 173 times (the photograph is not included or linked to in this post). As NY Mag's Joe Coscarelli notes, friends don't seem to know how to react.

17 hours ago the account changed its cover image to an image of a man sitting happily with a woman and a young girl.
Despite being uploaded five hours ago, the image of Medina's wife has not been deleted at the time of writing.
