HAL will sponsor Master’s level students in technology & development programme at the Centre for Technology Alternatives for Rural Areas (CTARA) in Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai or IIT Bombay.
The sponsorships will be part of the HAL’s corporate social responsibility initiatives and aims to enhance supply of technical experts in the development sector.
Under the sponsorship scheme, HAL will offer fellowships to five M.Tech students at CTARA. This year, 33 students have been selected for the M.Tech programme, with one sponsored candidate.
HAL fellows will undertake relevant research in their second year. The research will focus on serving needs of the lower strata of Indian society. M.Tech students at IIT-B CTARA are expected to come up with new innovations, practices and research to make key programs and activities more effective.
Students of the M.Tech course will also understand the role of technology in key sectors of sustainable development too like water, energy, soils and agriculture. CTARA sponsorship programme will start from academic session 2014-15.
Besides M. Tech in Technology and Development, CTARA at IIT-B also offers supervised learning courses for B.Tech students in technology & development.
