HUDCO opens its own office at Bidhan Nagar in Kolkata

Kolkata: The newly constructed "HUDCO Bhawan" with covered area of 4243.04 Sq.mtr. in Basement plus three floors on a Plot area of 1986.62 Sq.mtr. located at Plot No.11, Block-DJ, Sector-II, Bidhan Nagar, Kolkata-700 091 of Housing and Urban Development Corporation Ltd. (HUDCO), a premier Government of India Undertaking, under Ministry of Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation, was inaugurated today by M. Venkaiah Naidu, Hon'ble Minister of Urban Development, Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation and Parliamentary Affairs, Government of India. Shri Babul Supriyo. Hon'ble Minister of State for Urban Development and Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation, Government of India and Dr. M. Ravi Kanth, Chairman & Managing Director, HUDCO were also present on the occasion. Various other dignitaries from the State Government were also present to grace the occasion.

HUDCO’s new office at Salt Lake is strategically located, and would help in catering to the Shelter & Infrastructure financing needs of State Urban Development Authority (SUDA), Municipal Engineering Department (MED), Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA), Bidhan Nagar Municipal Corporation, WBHIDCO, etc.

HUDCO has so far supported a total of 338 schemes in the State of West Bengal with a total loan sanction of Rs.4,421 crores of which Rs.3,366 crores has already been disbursed, (Rs.916 crore for housing and Rs. 2,450 crore for infrastructure projects).

HUDCO’s assistance for housing in the State has helped in taking up of 32.18 lakh houses. This is the highest number of housing units HUDCO has supported in any State in the country. This forms almost 20% of the entire housing units, supported by HUDCO in the country. More significant is the fact that almost 98% of the housing units (i.e. 31.56 lakh units) supported by HUDCO in West Bengal has been for Economically Weaker Sections and Low Income Group families.

HUDCO has been in the forefront in supporting projects that improve the quality of life of citizens at large. In West Bengal, HUDCO has supported 48 major urban infrastructure projects, with a total loan amount of Rs.3,542 crore. Of this, 34 projects pertain to utility infrastructure, such as, water supply, drainage, solid waste, roads and bridges as well as Social Infrastructure, like stadiums, schools.

HUDCO has increased its support for housing and infrastructure development in the recent past. During the last four years, HUDCO has sanctioned a total of 11 projects for a loan amount of Rs.1,288 crores. This included 4 housing projects and 7 infrastructure projects.

HUDCO has recently sanctioned two road projects for a total loan amount of Rs.837.60 crore for West Bengal Highway Development Corporation (WBHDCL) during the current financial year 2014-15 and has also approved the proposal of executing MOU with West Bengal Police Housing Corporation Limited, for meeting the housing loan requirement for the police personnel in the state.

HUDCO has financed some of the land mark projects in Kolkata such as the Vidyut Bhawan (behind HUDCO BHAWAN) at Salt Lake, Bidhan Nagar Municipal Office Building, National University of Juridical Sciences Building at Bidhan Nagar, Passenger Jetty at Harwood Point at Kachuberia, and the Taratala Flyover.

Towards promoting integrated and comprehensive development of human settlements, HUDCO has sanctioned Rs. 1.5 crores for 5 model villages and model bastis in the state of West Bengal.

Hudco under CSR programmes sanctioned Rs. 2 crores for construction of 5 night shelters and skill development programmes.

HUDCO is also taking initiative for development of innovative projects such asNon-Conventional/ Renewable Energy projects (Solar Parks), projects that promote efficient movement and interaction, such as, development of Metro-projects as well as Metro-Links, Ring Roads, Radial Roads, etc., among various industrial hubs of West Bengal; can provide special support for land acquisition for development of industrial corridors, creation of Ports, logistic hub and smart cities etc.

HUDCO would now be operating in the State of West Bengal and also covering State of Sikkim from its new premises at –
