Baseball Bat boy Kaiser Carlile dies after getting hit in the head by swing only at 9

Kansas: Kaiser Carlile, the 9-year-old bat boy who was hit on the head by a batter taking warmup swings in the on-deck circle during a National Baseball Congress World Series game on Saturday, has died, the Liberal Bee Jays announced on their Facebook page.

“Right before he fell, the umpire and the base player both rushed up and caught him before he hit the ground,” witness Malachi Lingg told KWCH.

“They caught him and just set him on the ground and they all clustered around him quickly. It was really silent. Everybody was quiet. I think they were all really sad because it was a really small boy.”

The boy was struck by a follow-through swing near the on-deck circle on Saturday afternoon. A spokesman for the National Baseball Congress says the child was wearing a helmet, which is mandatory.

A bat boy does the job of carrying and sorting equipment for a basebal team.

Home-plate umpire Mark Goldfeder, who is a longtime paramedic, treated the boy until an ambulance arrived. The team played a game on Sunday, winning 8-0.

The team posted on its Facebook page: “With the permission of the family, and with much sorrow and a very broken heart, I regretfully inform everyone that Kaiser Carlile passed away earlier this evening.

“Please keep his family and our team in your thoughts and prayers.”
