Bangalore: Former Karnataka chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, arrested for alleged corruption cases, will spend Diwali behind bars as the high court Monday put off to Oct 28 the hearing his bail plea. Justice B.V. Pinto of the Karnataka High Court adjourned the hearing as arguments against bail were inconclusive.

The high court has holidays for the next three days as in Karnataka, the Hindu festival of Diwali is celebrated Oct 25 (Naraka Chaturdasi) and Oct 27 (Balipadyami).

Yeddyurappa applied for bail Oct 17, two days after he was arrested and sent to judicial custody by the Special Lokayukta (ombudsman) Court Judge N.K. Sudhindra Rao in two of the five corruption and illegal land deal cases against him.

Yeddyurappa Monday filed another petition seeking anticipatory bail in the other three cases.

The five cases were filed by two Bangalore advocates Sirajin Bhasha and K.N. Balaraj in January.

The bail plea of former Muzrai (endowments) minister S.N. Krishnaiah Shetty, arrested along with Yeddyurappa in the two cases, will also be heard Oct 28. Both the former chief minister and Shetty are lodged in the central prison in Bangalore's eastern suburb Parappana Agrahara.
