Chandigarh: The Congress made early gains in Punjab Tuesday as vote count began for 117 assembly seats.
The Congress was leading on three seats while the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal was leading in one seat, officials said.
Counting of votes started in Punjab at 8 a.m. Tuesday.
Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh won the Patiala assembly seat even though his party was not doing well in counting trends Tuesday.
Amarinder Singh defeated his Akali Dal rival Surjit Singh Kohli by 42,318 votes.
