NY: Outfits like this are usually reserved for the Oscars. But Jessica Chastain injected some Tinseltown magic into the Tony Awards red carpet this evening. The flame-haired actress, 31, proudly showed off her feminine curves in a see-through dress while attending the New York event held at Manhattan's Beacon Theatre, the Daily Mail reported.
Her trademark strawberry blonde locks hung in loose ringlets around her shoulders, as she teased onlookers in the cheeky transparent cocktail gown.
The knee-length frock was detailed with beads and pearls, while appearing to be transparent.
However, Academy Award-nominee protected her modesty with a flesh-coloured corset beneath which acted as an additional layer and covered her assets as a bra would normally do.
While the Tonys recognise achievements in live Broadway theatre, and Jessica is a silver screen star, she will actually be heading to the stage this autumn to play the leading role in The Heiress.
The rising star is already on her way to global domination, having won a BAFTA and Golden Globe for her efforts in The Globe.
Her latest film - in which she loans her vocals to Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted - just landed at the top spot of the box office this weekend with an estimated gross of $60.4m.
Joining Jessica this evening, was the ever-glamorous Sheryl Crow. The 50-year-old looked radiant, despite revealing this week that she had been diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2011, six years after her ordeal with breast cancer.
Flashing her iconic smile, the All I Wanna Do songbird placed her hand on her hip as the navy satin train of her dress trailed behind her. The upper bodice was detailed with elegant snowflake cutouts against a nude modesty panel.
Sheryl's coiffed curls bounced around her shoulders as she easily defied her half century age.
Other stars to join the mother-of-one included Sex and the City 2 star Condola Rashad, who opted for virginal white, and actress Adrienne Warren who was a little braver in a candyfloss pink creation.
Host Neil Patrick Harris arrived with David Burtka, both looking dapper in their jackets and ties.
However, the actor - of How I Met Your Mother fame - seemed a little lax about the whole affair.
Yesterday he tweeted: '@TheTonyAwards are tomorrow. I really should start preparing something...'
Spider-Man hunk Andrew Garfield also flew the flag for the boys - not in his latex suit however - as did Livin' la Vida Loca singer Ricky Martin.
The San Juan-born star seemed a little more energetic than Harris, tweeting: '#Rolling #Rolling #Rolling myself out of bed 2go2 rehearsals.
'An amazing Sunday in NYC with The Tony Awards & The Puertorrican (sic) Day Parade!'
Newly-married Cynthia Nixon took a momentary break from family life after tying the knot to partner Christine Marinoni - the biological mother of their child - last month.
The Sex And The City star has been nominated for her role in Wit, for which she shaved her head to play a cancer patient.
It was also a night of veterans versus rising stars, with Bernadette Peters (who has received seven Tony nods previously) striding along the red carpet in purple alongside young Cristin Milioti, who has been honoured with her debut nomination for Best Actress in a Musical following her efforts in Once.
