GAIL to set up 1,000 MW power plant in Punjab

Chandigarh: The Punjab government Tuesday approved a 1,000-MW power plant to be set up in the state's Ropar district, a spokesman of the chief minister's office said here.

The proposed plant will have three units of 330 MW each.

Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal gave in-principle approval to set up the gas-based plant in collaboration with the Gas Authority of India (GAIL) at Ropar, 50 km from here.

The approval was given at a meeting of the chief minister and senior officials with the top brass of GAIL, including Chairman and Managing Director B.C. Tripathi.

"About 150 acres of land is already available in the vicinity of the Guru Gobind Singh Super Thermal plant at Ropar, besides assured gas supply from Dadri-Nangal pipeline," the spokesman said.
