Kanda eyed vulnerable girls, Geetika caught in trap New Delhi: Investigations into the suicide of Geetika Sharma point towards a pattern of threat, coercion, blackmail and obsession. Gopal Goyal Kanda, the former Haryana Minister, was after her life.

Geetika, a former air-hostess with Kanda’s MDLR (Murli Dhar Lakh Ram) airlines, had tried to wriggle out of his clutches but his vice-like grip never allowed her to break free and live a life of her own.

Kanda’s obsession with Geetika demonstrated itself in callous behaviour. While she insisted that he sever all relations with his mistresses, Kanda was in no mood. Police have now unearthed hundreds of messages that Kanda sent to Geetika. These messages are a pointer to Kanda’s obsession for Geetika.

Delhi Police is all set to book Kanda under Section 201 of IPC for destruction of evidence. Kanda is proving elusive while Delhi Police has launched 30 teams comprising its best inspectors to hunt down the Sirsa MLA whose meteoric rise has been linked to many monetary scandals.

Police have found that the hard disks of many computers of MDLR and other business offices of Kanda have been missing. He was accused of tampering and deleting crucial data from computers to remove all information that may link him to Geetika.

Delhi Police launched an intense search to bring Kanda to justice and was monitoring his friends, employees, acquaintances and relatives to locate his hideout. Delhi Police officers conveyed it to his family members to tell that all this running is not going to help him. It would be better for him if he comes to the police on his own. There is enough evidence to nail him.

Sources said that senior police officers were getting feelers from Kanda’s family that he may surrender before the police or the court on Monday. North-West district police are wary of the offer as Kanda may well use it as a ruse to escape and also fool the police in relaxing its dragnet that has been launched to catch him.

A senior police officer said on Friday that multi-pronged investigations were launched to collect evidence against the former Haryana Minister. It has now been found that there was a criminal conspiracy aimed to force Geetika into submission.

Kanda abused his position as the Minister of State for Home and forced an inspector of Gurgaon Police, identified as Devender Yadav and who was posted as the Station House Officer of Civil Lines area of Gurgaon, to act at his behest.

Kanda’s business premises and his residence were in the jurisdiction of Civil Lines area hence he roped in Inspector Yadav to write an e-mail to Emirates Airlines to sack Geetika. Yadav has been questioned in this regard and it has been established beyond that Kanda had a criminal intent, the official added.

Police investigations indicate that Kanda was ‘glad eyed’ and he found that Geetika was vulnerable. He deliberately selected vulnerable girls to fox them into submission. Geetika somehow managed to stave off his advances. She was forced to rejoin Kanda’s company after she was terminated by Emirates management.

Her ordeal stared as Kanda started behaving as she was his private property. Kanda kept an eye on her every movement, especially with respect to those whom she met. Whenever she tried to wriggle out the mess, she was threatened with dire consequences.

Kanda intimidate her to get her implicated into false cases of embezzlement of office funds and she was conveyed that she should be ready to be arrested if she did not fall in line.

A police officer said that they had prepared the sequence of events on the basis of the investigations, messages, call details and statements given by Geetika’s relatives. Police also questioned over a dozen employees of Kanda who have corroborated police findings. Kanda is running out of time and he can do a favour to himself by surrendering before the Investigating Officer, the official added.
