New Delhi: Manoranjan Bhakta, Former Member of Parliament from A&N Parliamentary Constituency breathed his last at his residence after prolonged illness at Salt Lake, Kolkata. President Pranab Mukherjee has condoled the passing away of veteran Parliamentarian Manoranjan Bhakta.
Bhakta was 76 years old. Bhakta has to his credit of being the longest serving Member of Parliament from A&N Islands. He has been the elected MP of the islands for 8 terms out of which 7 were consecutive from 1977-1999.
In a condolence message to his wife, Smt. Shanti Bhakta, the President Pranab Mukherjee has said, “I am sad to learn about the passing away of your husband, Shri Manoranjan Bhakta.
Shri Bhakta was a veteran Parliamentarian who understood the pulse of the people. In his long public career, he made important contributions towards the welfare of the people, particularly that of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
" His services to the nation as a former Parliamentarian and social worker will always be remembered.
" Please accept my heartfelt condolences and convey the same to the rest of the family. May the Almighty give you and your family the strength and courage to bear this irreparable loss”.
In 2010, Late Bhakta shifted from Congress and had joined the Trinamool Congress party.
The death of Manoranjan Bhakta has been mourned by the President, Pradesh Congress Committee, Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Chief Spokesperson, Mr K Ganeshan and other leaders of the Congress party. They also prayed for enough strength for the members of the bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss.
Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament, Bishnu Pada Ray has also mourned the sad demise of the veteran Parliamentarian, Manoranjan Bhakta.
The demise of Bhakta has also been condoled by the Chairperson, Tribal Council of Nancowrie, Ayesha Majid and Shri A.R. Marudhavanan, State Organiser, DMK. President Pranab Mukherjee has condoled the passing away of veteran Parliamentarian Shri Manoranjan Bhakta.
