Sundeep Kumar Nayak gets warm send-off, Secretary reminds co-ops of 5 trillion $ promise
New Delhi: Several stalwarts of the cooperative sector led by none other than the newly appointed Secretary Gyanesh Kumar paid glowing tributes to Sundeep Nayak, an officer who played a stellar role during his stint as Managing Director of cooperative lender NCDC. The dinner was hosted by Sahakar Bharati at India Habitat Centre on Monday as a send-off to Nayak who has been transferred from NCDC to National Productivity Council.

Calling Nayak one of the best cadets of his batch (both of them belong to the 1988 batch of IAS) Gyanesh Kumar, the Secretary said Nayak has made a mark wherever he has gone. Hoping against hope, the Secretary said that Nayak’s successor has yet not come and he is with the NCDC as of now.

Kumar, who has recently joined as the Secretary of the Ministry of Cooperation said that he has agreed to come as he expected to meet cooperators in an informal setting. “Being new it would have taken time to invite each of you, but here we are mingling freely”, said the Secretary.

Kumar also used the occasion to remind cooperators that the govt led by Modi and Shah has a deep yearning to make India a 5 trillion-dollar economy and it sees co-operatives playing a major role in it.

Admiring NCDC MD Sundeep Nayak, RBI Board member and senior Sahakar Bharati leader Satish Marathe said that Nayak would be remembered for setting up an Expert Committee to deliberate on co-op lending and for the help he offered in setting up the LINAC, a premier co-op training institute.

Speaking on this occasion, Dileep Sanghani said both as a co-op leader and as a former Minister he has seen many officers but few with the kind of commitment for co-ops as Nayak. He treated co-op issues as an issue of his family, added Sanghani.

Lauding Nayak for his balanced approach to issues, IFFCO MD Dr U S Awasthi said Nayak would be remembered for his stellar performance in the co-op sector. Talking about IFFCO, Awasthi promised IFFCO would keep the Indian co-op flag flying high at the global level. “IFFCO and Amul are number one and two globally in the food segment ranking prepared by ICA Cooperative Monitor. Even otherwise, in general, global ranking, IFFCO is 66th”, stated the MD.

The IFFCO MD also took the opportunity to greet the new Secretary for his positive disposition. ''When I met him, he was exuding happiness and a sense of well-being soon spread around, an experience far removed from grim-faced expressions, one generally associates bureaucracy with'', said Awasthi in a lighter vein.

Overwhelmed by the words expressed on the occasion, the hero of the show Sundeep Nayak said that he does not think he deserves all this. I have always tried to be faithful to the organization I serve but at NCDC it was a little different, said Nayak.

He cited the incident of the inauguration of LINAC by Sar Sanghchalak Shri Mohan Bhagwat as a turning point. ''I had recently joined and in February 2017, the occasion came. What I learned in a week’s time could have taken me months, recalled Nayak.

Many others including NCUI Vice-Chairman Bijender Singh, Nafcub President Jyotindra Mehta, and Sahakar Bharati President D N Thakur paid glowing tributes to Nayak.

D N Thakur said that ''without desiring any return I on behalf of Sahakar Bharati assure the govt and others that we will lend all support to the co-op movement if we are called.'' Sanjay Pachpore introduced the Manthan team of Sahakar Bharati to the assembled team.

Uday Joshi, KK Tripathy, OSD in the Ministry,J P Meena, IFFCO Vice-Chairman Balvir Singh, Sadhana Jadav, and many others were present on the occasion.
