Cultural Tourism: Motor bicycle expedition from Lumbini to Sri Lanka via Buddha Gaya & Kusinara

: Three organizations in India, Nepal and Sri Lanka will jointly organize a motor bicycle expedition from Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha in Nepal, through the sacred places of Buddhist worship in India to Colombo in January 2024.

A preliminary discussion was held with Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena at the Temple Trees in Colombo on September 1, 2023 with the participation of several ministers and organizers and the representatives of Tri Forces and Police.

The motor bicycle ride will pass through Kusinara, Buddha Gaya, Shavastri, Saranath, Buddha Gaya and Sankassa where Buddha’s spent many years 2,600 years ago. It will arrive in South India and cross the sea at Rameswaram by ferry to Mannar and arrive in Colombo by road through Anuradhapura, Mihintale, Kataragama and several other places of religious worship.

Appreciating the organizers’ efforts of this expedition to enhance religious and cultural relations between the three countries - Sri Lanka, Nepal and India - the Prime Minister assured the full support of the government for the cycling.

and Police participated in this discussion.
