New Delhi: The 18th batch (OCES-2023) of Trainee Scientific Officers from the BARC Training School at Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR), Kalpakkam has successfully completed their one year orientation- cum-training in the field of Nuclear Science and Engineering in five disciplines (viz.) Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electronics & Instrumentation, Nuclear Reactor Physics and Nuclear Fuel Cycle Chemistry and graduated in a special event that took place at IGCAR on July 26, 2024. 
Dr. Vidya Sundararajan, Head, BARC Training School at IGCAR &AD SQRMG, IGCAR welcomed the gathering and gave a brief overview  of the OCES programme which is being conducted at IGCAR successfully for the past 18 years. She recalled the humble beginning of BARC training school at IGCAR Campus in September 2006. During the last 18 years, more than 600 trainees have graduated and have been successfully placed in various units of DAE. 

 C.G. Karhadkar, Distinguished Scientist and Director, IGCAR and GSO in his address mentioned about values like passion and dedication to be followed along with technical excellence to take the career ahead in DAE.  Prof. A. K. Tyagi, FRSC, FNASc, FASc, FNAE, FNA, FTWAS, Distinguished Scientist, Dean, Homi Bhabha National Institute, Mumbai,  JC Bose National Fellow, Honorary Professor, JNCASR, Bengaluru   & Former Director, Chemistry Group & Bio-sciences Group, BARC, Mumbai, was the Chief Guest, who released the souvenir and distributed the prestigious Homi Bhabha Prizes comprising of medallions and certificates to the toppers. In his engrossing address, he took the audience down the memory lane from 1939 to 2024 on the genesis of Atomic Energy programme until what it is today and also traced the road map of Amrit Kaal, even while advising the trainees based on his experience. Mr. Kanhaiya Kumar Bhagat from the Nuclear Fuel Cycle Chemistry discipline has emerged as the overall topper of this batch. The graduating Trainee Scientific Officers will be placed in important projects across various Units of DAE.
