New Delhi: Noted Vocalist Dr Puspashree Mishra enthralled the audiences with her mesmerising musical performance recently at Stein Auditorium of India Habitat Centre in New Delhi. A Hindustani classical exponent of Kirana Gharana, Dr Mishra has the expertise and excellence in rendering light classical music like thumris, Bhajans and Ghazals.Initiated into music at the tender age of five under the tutelage of Veteran Guru Gopal Chandra Panda, Puspashree received Sangeet Alankar Degree from Gandharva Mahavidylaya at the age of 21.
Dr Mishra has had the privilege of performing in numerous prestigious music Festivals all over the country and has been the recipient of several coveted Awards for her exemplary contribution in the field of performing arts. Holder of a Kaleidoscopic personality, Dr Mishra has also been making her marks as a serving senior scientist in Government of India.
The concert commenced with a soul-stirring rendition of two compositions by Kabir, whose poetry speaks of a spiritual journey that transcends religious boundaries. The uniqueness of Singer’s rich and powerful voice laced with lucidity and tenderness was ideally suited to convey the mysticism and philosophical depth of Kabir’s verses.
Following this, the audiences were treated with a Krishna Bhajan by poet Dash Narayan. Singer’s impeccable tonal control and emotional overtures showcased her intimate understanding of the poetry and was instrumental in elevating the listeners to experience divinity at a higher plane.
The highlight of the evening was Meerabai’s devotional song which evoked fervent longing and ecstatic love intertwined with tasting of total bliss through complete surrender to God as the Singer infused life into every note.
Throughout the performance, the Singer demonstrated a profound understanding of ragas accompanied by deep emotional appeal.Though her technical precision was flawless, yet it was her ability to skilfully connect the technique with the poetry that made the evening so special. Whether delicately caressing the lower notes or soaring effortlessly into the higher octaves, she commanded attention with every phrase. Puspashree’s masterly interpretations of each verses were a testament of her extensive practice and pure perfection. The evening concluded with a spellbinding impact on the audiences and left a state of deep reflection and awe. This was not just a concert; it was a spiritual sojourn, guided by a Singer whose dedication to the craft and devotion to the spirit shone in every moment. The musical accompanists were Divyanshu Kumar on Tabla, Mukesh Bharadwaj on harmonium, Raag Yaman on Flute and Prashanta Bavaria on Manjira. Ankita Kumari anchored the programme in a smooth and seamless manner.
