The festival of Holika Dahan is celebrated a day before Holi, symbolizing the victory of good over evil. Holi, the festival of colors, joy, and new energy, is preceded by Holika Dahan, which is believed to cleanse negative energies from our surroundings and lives.
Across India, Holika Dahan is performed at public squares and open spaces. However, it is considered inauspicious to conduct the ritual during Bhadra Kaal. This year, the presence of Bhadra on Holi raises concerns over the correct timing for the ceremony.
Holika Dahan will take place on March 13, 2025, on the occasion of Phalguna Purnima. According to Hindu traditions, the best time for Holika Dahan is during Pradosh Vyapini Purnima, free from the influence of Bhadra.
Begins: March 13, 2025, at 10:35 AM
Ends: March 14, 2025, at 12:23 PM
Notably, a lunar eclipse will also occur on this day.
Bhadra Poonch: March 13, 2025, from 6:57 PM to 8:14 PM
Bhadra Mukh: March 13, 2025, from 8:14 PM to 10:22 PM
Holika Dahan should only be performed after 10:22 PM, once Bhadra ends
The most favorable time for Holika Dahan is from 11:26 PM to 12:30 AM on March 13, 2025. This one-hour period is considered highly auspicious for the ritual.
Performing Holika Dahan during Bhadra is believed to bring misfortune and negativity. Astrologically, when the Moon transits through Cancer, Leo, Aquarius, or Pisces, it forms a Bhadra Vish?i Karana, during which Bhadra resides on Earth, making it necessary to avoid any auspicious activities during this time.
