Italy PM Slams Liberals Double Standards

New Delhi: Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni came down heavily at the global political Left, which she described as a "liberal network", as she stated that leaders like herself, US President Donald Trump, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Argentine President Javier Milei are creating and leading a new global conservative movement, which is making the Left "nervous".

Meloni slammed the Left's "double standards" which she said are exposed as they call it a "threat to democracy" when leaders talk about national interests and safeguarding their borders.

Accusing the Left of "hyprocrisy" and reacting with "hysteria" to the rise of conservative leaders in the world, Meloni said that people no longer believe in the lies of the left wing, and that they are now used to the criticism of nationalist leaders.

She exuded confidence in Trump's leadership and pointed out the nervousness among Left after he was re-elected as the US President, saying that they are worried as conservative leaders are winning and collaborating on global issues across the globe.

"The Left is nervous and with Trump's victory, their irritation has turned into hysteria, not only because conservatives are winning, but because conservatives are now collaborating globally," she said, while virtually addressing a Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington DC on Sunday.

"When Bill Clinton (former US President) and Tony Blair (former UK Prime Minister) created the global leftist liberal network in the 90s, they were called statesmen. Today, when Trump, Meloni, Milei or maybe Modi talk, they are called a threat to democracy. This is the Left's double standard, but we are used to it, and the good news is people no longer believe in their lies, despite all the mud they throw at us. Citizens keep voting for us," the Italian PM said.

She further said that the people vote for these leaders as they are not not naive as the Left believes them to be. "They vote for us as we defend freedom, love our nations, preserve businesses and citizens from leftist insanity, secure borders, and protect our sacred right to out faith and free speech," she added.

PM Meloni faced opposition from her political adversaries in Rome over her decision to address CPAC. The row intensified after Trump's former chief strategist, Steve Bannon, seemed to have used a Nazi salute during the conference this week.

Opposition MPs asked Meloni to cancel her address and follow the lead of Jordan Bardella, a France National Rally party leader, who also withdrew his participation, describing Bannon's gesture alluding to the "Naz ideology".
